A reference to the range of colors that can be viewed, displayed, or printed. Different means of viewing or displaying color have different capabilities in the ranges of color that can be reproduced. Digital printing equipment, for example, is capable of reproducing a greater range of color than traditional offset technology, which gives digital technology a distinct advantage over offset. The various forms of print technology use the subtractive color primaries of cyan, magenta, and yellow (in addition to black), known as the CMY color gamut, for color reproduction. Electronic display media, such as computer monitors and television, use the additive color primaries of red, green, and blue, known as the RGB color gamut, for accurate representation of color. The following examples are arranged according to the display or output device with the greatest color gamut down to the display or output device with the least. - Human Eye
- Photographic Film
- Television of Computer Monitor
- Digital Printing Equipment
