Paper Finish
|
A term that refers to the surface characteristics of paper stocks, which vary from grade to grade. Varying degrees of smoothness, printability, and ink receptivity are provided by different finishes. Some finishes can be applied to paper during the paper manufacturing process while others can be applied as an offline process.- Online: A finish such as Laid can be created while the paper is being manufactured. A marking roller is used that forms the pattern in the paper while the paper is still wet.
- Offline: Paper finishes produced off-line are usually accomplished with steel rollers that press the pattern into the paper. The off-line finishes are known as embossed finishes.
