A system that allows for the effective storage and retrieval of large groups of images, videos, animations, music, and sound files collectively known as assets. Media Asset Management (MAM) systems can be incorporated into existing workflow programs to help cut costs and increase efficiency. A company-wide media asset management system allows different departments to share assets. For example, without a media asset management system, one department may purchase an image from an outside source unaware that another department may already have the image on file. A media asset management system permits all departments to pull the required assets from one source. Less time is spent in locating files, tracking multiple versions of files, reorganizing files, and transferring files. Media asset management systems are a very beneficial tool when working with print-on-demand and one-to-one marketing applications. The level of organization required for these types of print products is so critical that a media asset management system can be regarded as a necessity for organizing customized print applications and maintaining the efficiency required for producing the jobs.
