Controlled Ablation Plate
A type of plate used for computer-to-plate systems in which the residue that forms on the plate during laser imaging is washed away with the fountain solution of the press. During the imaging process, the laser loosens, or ablates, areas of the plate emulsion. The debris is loosened by the fountain solution of the press and is then carried away by the ink. The debris is deposited onto the paper as the first few impressions are printed. This technique is faster than cleaning the plates manually before printing. The use of controlled ablation plates helps to eliminate the accumulation of debris from the lens of the laser and the accumulation of debris from the press.
